Speaker bios  Dr. Karen Townsend Karen M.R. Townsend, Ph.D. is the president and CEO of
KTownsend Consulting–an award-winning organizational development and consulting firm providing expertise in the areas of leadership development, 21st-century diversity, and personal excellence. Her clients include educational institutions, government agencies, non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 companies. Dr. Karen is a thought leader who has educated
professionals at every level and is well known for her approach to diversity education. She believes in the importance of moving beyond simply recognizing diversity, to leveraging the
potential, the talent and the skills of every person. Dr. Karen has written several articles on this topic which have been featured in local, regional and national publications. Her goal is to help her clients live and lead…confidently. Dr. Karen serves on the board of directors for the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce,
the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center and The Boys and Girls Club of Dayton. She is a
member of the Diversity Advisory Council for The Dayton Business Journal and the Community Advisory Board for the Dayton Daily News. Most recently, she was selected by the United States Department of Defense, Air Force Research Laboratory to serve as a member of the inaugural Civic Leaders Council. In this capacity, Dr. Karen works with
advocates from across the country to advise and collaborate with AFRL leadership to provide connections between civic leader communities and the public. Dr. Karen is also the founder of About My Sisters–an organization “on a mission to empower one million women and girls!” Since 1993, she has hosted the nationally recognized Sister to Sister conference in Dayton, Ohio. The conference just celebrated its
30-year anniversary and has been recognized as one of the longest-running women’s events in the United States. Dr. Karen has shared her message of women’s empowerment in the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and Johannesburg, South Africa. A highlight of her career was being selected as one of sixteen people invited by Oprah Winfrey to participate in the Live the Life You Want! masterclass where she had the opportunity to share with Oprah–and a worldwide audience–why self-care is so very important. Dr. Karen is the author of the best-selling book It All Started When I Stopped Using Lotion: One Woman’s Journey From Chaos to Calm, which was inspired by her own quest to find life balance. “The Lotion Book” encourages women to “Take their TiME! (Time for ME!) and is currently being used by organizations across the globe to support
the professional development and career advancement of high potential women leaders. Jeremy Caff, Executive Director for the Access Center for Independent Living (ACIL) Jeremy Caffee has been with the Access Center for Independent Living (ACIL) for 6 years as their Executive Director. Prior to ACIL, Jeremy managed LIHTC and HUD 811 properties for Miami Valley Housing Opportunities. He is a graduate of Antioch University and currently working toward his Master of Science degree in Non-profit Administration with Grace College. The mission of the Access Center for Independent Living (ACIL) is to ensure that people with disabilities have full and complete access to the community in which they reside. To this end, staff of ACIL worked with the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center and the Dayton Realtors MLS committee to develop an Accessibility Form which can be attached to sales listings found in the multiple listing service (MLS) that Dayton Realtors operates. The Accessibility Form assists local realtors describe all of a listed property’s accessibility features and helps ensure people with disabilities are welcomed in our communities through Dayton Realtors MLS. John Zimmerman Vice President—Miami Valley Fair Housing Center Mr. Zimmerman is a Fair Housing Instructor certified by the Ohio Division of Real Estate to conduct classes providing continuing education credits for REALTORS® and appraisers since 2001. Since 1999 he has been an instructor of fair housing courses certified for CAM continuing education credits. He instructs staff from: Permanent Supportive Housing properties, Rural Housing 515, LIHTC properties, Project Based Section 8 properties, 202/811 properties, and Public Housing. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Tiffany Lobertini (ABR, AHWD, ePro, MRP) Tiffany is a broker for her family-owned brokerage in Dayton Ohio. Before her career in Real Estate, she was a secondary school educator. She has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Administration. She became a REALTOR in 2011 and is a 3rd generation REALTOR. In 2014 she became the Recruiting and Training Manager for her brokerage where she developed and taught many courses, including courses certified for CE with the State of Ohio. In 2019 she obtained her brokers license and is a graduate of the Ohio Realtors Leadership Academy in 2022. She teaches at her local board and is an instructor for Accredited Buyer’s Representative, At Home With Diversity and Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing. Tiffany has been very involved in committees at the State, Women’s Council of Realtors, National Association of Real Estate Brokers, and at her local board where she serves on the Board of Directors, in addition to several committees . One of her passions that she brought with her from her educational career is her commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and is Vice Chair for her local board’s DEI committee. Marie Kindrick Fair Housing Awards  Marie Kindrick Marie Kindrick was a remarkable woman who for nearly sixty years was committed to working for the rights of those who are under-represented. Her mother was from Indiana, and her father was an immigrant from Italy. Speaking of her childhood, Marie recalled that her neighborhoods in Cincinnati were totally diverse with everyone working and playing together, as it should be. The first thing people who knew Marie remember is her big warmth and her generous spirit. She made her life a testament to the kind of work that we honor with these awards. As a REALTOR® in our community, she was a volunteer tutor for the DABR Partners in Education at Ruskin School and also taught English as a second language in Kettering Schools. She served on DABR’s Equal Opportunity Committee from 1992 until her untimely passing in May 1998. Each year we pay tribute to Marie Kindrick and honor her for the inspiration to work for fairness and equity for everyone by honoring a Community Professional, a Community Volunteer, and a REALTOR®. Fair Housing and Disability Awareness for REALTORS®. Workshop time: 8:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. This workshop fulfills 3.0 CEU hours for Realtors in the State of Ohio. This is an interactive fair housing workshop for REALTORS® presented by a team of experienced professionals from the Access Center for Independent Living and the Miami Valley Fair Housing Center, both located in Dayton, Ohio; In Fair Housing and Disability Awareness for REALTORS®, participants will learn about their fair housing role in assisting people with disabilities who might need reasonable accommodation and modifications in the process of seeking, purchasing or renting and moving into a new home. They will learn about different concepts and levels of accessibility in the design and construction of structural features as well. Next, class participants will be divided into teams of five to participate in awareness activities designed to provide insight into the disability experience. A few of the things REALTORS® will experience mobilizing with a manual wheelchair, functioning with a mobility/dexterity impairment, and having experiential activities that simulate hearing impairment and visual impairment and activities designed to raise awareness of cognitive and speech disabilities.
